There is a moment that many women recognise immediately when I describe it.
You are standing in front of a wardrobe full of clothes — perhaps an enviable wardrobe, by any objective measure — and you feel nothing. Not excitement. Not clarity. A kind of quiet frustration, and the persistent, uncomfortable sense that none of it is quite you anymore.
It is not a crisis. It is not vanity. It is something far more significant: a signal that you have changed, and your style has not kept pace.
After more than thirty years working as a personal stylist, private shopper, and costume designer in Rome, I have sat with this moment alongside hundreds of women. And what I have learned is this: rediscovering your style is not about reinvention. It is about recognition — seeing yourself clearly, perhaps for the first time in years, and building a wardrobe that reflects who you actually are today.
Why Style Gets Lost in the First Place
Style does not disappear overnight. It fades gradually, quietly, through a series of small compromises. How to Rediscover Your Style at Any Age: The Method of a Personal Stylist in Rome
A phase of life demands practicality, and suddenly everything in the wardrobe is functional rather than beautiful. A significant change — a new job, a move, a shift in body or confidence — makes the familiar feel wrong, but the path forward is unclear. Shopping becomes reactive rather than intentional: you buy what is available, what is on sale, what seems safe. The wardrobe fills up, and yet nothing feels right.
For many of my clients, this drift has been happening for years before they seek help. They arrive not because they have no style, but because they have lost the thread of it — and they are not sure where to begin looking.
This is precisely where my method begins.
Step One: Understanding Who You Are Now
The first and most important step in rediscovering your style is not opening your wardrobe. It is a conversation.
Before I recommend a single garment or suggest a single colour, I want to understand the life you are living today — not the life you were living five years ago, or the life you imagined you would be living. Your actual life: where you go, what you do, how you want to feel when you walk into a room.
I ask questions that might seem surprising coming from a stylist. What do you do when you feel most like yourself? When did you last feel genuinely elegant — and what were you wearing? Is there a version of yourself, past or future, whose style you admire?
These conversations reveal something that no wardrobe audit alone can: the gap between who you are and how you are presenting yourself to the world. That gap is where the work begins.
Step Two: Colour as a Foundation, Not a Detail
One of the most transformative tools I use with clients is colour analysis — what we call armocromia in Italian — the science of identifying which colours work in harmony with your natural colouring, and which work against it.
The right colours do something remarkable. They make the skin appear luminous, the eyes brighter, the face more rested and alive. The wrong ones — even beautiful colours, even expensive ones — create a subtle dissonance that is difficult to name but impossible to ignore.
Many women spend decades wearing colours they have inherited from habit, from trend, from a compliment received long ago. A structured colour analysis cuts through all of that and gives you something far more useful: a clear, personalised palette that becomes the foundation of every future purchase.
This is not about restriction. It is about precision — the difference between a wardrobe that works and one that merely exists.
Step Three: The Wardrobe as a Portrait
Once I understand who you are and which colours belong to you, we turn to the wardrobe itself.
My approach here is not to strip everything out and start again. That is both wasteful and disorienting. Instead, I look at what you already have with fresh eyes — identifying the pieces that genuinely serve you, the ones that can be elevated with the right styling, and the ones that are quietly working against you.
What emerges from this process is not a list of things to buy. It is a portrait: a clear picture of your current wardrobe’s strengths and gaps, and a precise understanding of what needs to be added — and why.
Every recommendation I make is specific. Not “you need a good blazer,” but “you need a structured blazer in a warm camel or deep ivory, slightly oversized, with clean lapels, to anchor your capsule and work across three distinct contexts in your life.” That level of specificity is what transforms shopping from an act of hoping into an act of intention.
Step Four: Shopping with Purpose
For clients who wish to continue beyond the consultation, I offer the experience of a private shopping tour through Rome — accompanying them directly to the boutiques, ateliers, and artisans whose work I know intimately after decades in this city.
This is where the work of the previous steps becomes tangible. We are not browsing. We are not hoping to find something nice. We are shopping with a map: a clear understanding of what is needed, where to find it at the highest level of quality, and how each piece fits into the larger picture of a wardrobe that works.
The result is not just beautiful clothes. It is a wardrobe that tells a coherent story — your story — and that serves you with elegance across every context of your life.
Style at Every Age — A Different Kind of Freedom
I want to say something directly to the women who feel that their moment of style has somehow passed — that the confidence and ease they once had with clothes belongs to a younger self.
It does not.
In my experience, the women who dress with the greatest authority, the most distinctive presence, the truest sense of self — are rarely the youngest women in the room. They are the women who have stopped dressing for approval and started dressing for themselves. Who know what they want, what works for them, and are not interested in anything less.
That knowledge is hard-won. My role is simply to help you access it more quickly, more clearly, and with more pleasure than you might find alone.
Style at any age is not about looking younger. It is about looking — and feeling — entirely, unmistakably yourself.
Where to Begin
If any part of this resonates — if you recognise that moment of standing in front of a full wardrobe and feeling nothing — I would be glad to hear from you.
Every client relationship begins with a conversation: no pressure, no obligation, simply the space to talk about where you are and where you would like to be.
I work with clients visiting Rome from around the world — from the Gulf region, the United Kingdom, the United States, and across Europe — as well as with those based in the city. Whatever your situation, I would love to explore how we might work together.
